Depends on the situation. It depends what the case may be, or what I am saying at the time.

I say a lot of highly intelligent people say “um” a lot, not all of them.

He says “um” as much as I say “and stuff”, everyone has their little nuances with the way they speak. What about all the ‘tubers that constantly go “so… yeah” that sounds dumb and rude. I have noticed a lot of highly intelligent people say “umm” A LOT! Take my highschool valedictorian, I counted him saying “um” 40 times once in a speech… that may be just how their brain works.

I know the purpose of using “um”, but he says it a little too much.
