Thanks. Those are cherry cabinets. Maple is great, but be sure to do a test on several boards to see if you can get it to the color you want. Stain them and finish completely.

Oh man, I hope that my kitchen could look as good as your one day.

I loved what you did with it, what kind of wood was that? Cause I’m thinking of going with Maple wood and staining it cherry. I hear Maple wood looks great with a cherry stain, as long as it is done right.

    Take care,

    Greg

You can get graining kits that allow you to mimic stained wood. Go to a national-brand paint store, not a home center. Although you may discover the kit at a home center.

I love the color of the cabinets. Could their be a paint color that would match closely to what you have or does it just come in stain?? I am looking to paint my cupboards in a “cherry wood” color. Thanks.

I found my girl friends cat on top of her ice chest once, the ice chest is inset in a cabinet like thing and the only way I could see the cat getting on top of it was jumping the whole 6ft strait up on top of it, and yes cats are always on counters. Keep up the great videos.

The kitchen looks amazing. I especially love the trip pieces that give the kitchen a custom look and feel. Also, combining a dark counter top with a light one is a brilliant idea.

    Yes it is.

Is a short bearing wall the same as a load bearing wall?

You got that right. I’m in a majority, so I don’t feel bad at all. Plus, she’s a pretty fantastic woman. It’s not a problem being owned…… :->

Awsome job, I was looking at all the ideas and soon have to convert a rea into a living area. major work, not a lot of money. Love the appliances all covered. PS CAT is GREAT! and very true, they are watching to see everything..lol

The counter was cleaned. When you have cats in a house they are always up on counters. Especially when you’re out of the room or sleeping. We always clean the counters before use because of this. My wife loves cats. So if I don’t like it, I can move out. :->

I had a lot of respect for you until I saw the cat’s bottom on the counter. Bad!!!

    Tim,

Great kitchen design. It looks as though you took your time and planned the remodel very well. It is amazing how much goes into the complete remodeling of a kitchen and how hectic things are around the house during that time but you can sure see from your video it was well worth it. 3 months is a long time to eat out but its worth it for the years of enjoyment that space will give you. Great job!

I have columns about this situation at my website. Read many of the columns in my Structural category.

I have a short (less than 5 feet) load bearing that I want to remove between my living room and kitchen. Do you have a video on how to do this? or have any advice? Thanks. I am a do-it-yourselfer, but would not mind paying someone to keep our roof from colapsing.

    Nice work. like your videos

They are cherry. Visit a Woodmode dealer and you will see the sample. The wood looks different colors under different light sources, so be careful when making your decision.

Mr. Carter, those are beatiful cabinets! Are they cherry wood? What is the name of the stain color? Great job, love the website!

We are in the process of redoing our kitchen now. We like Lowe’s but they didn’t have the cabinet style we wanted. We are now going with a frame-less style called Premier (only in Home Depot). It’s made by Kraftmaid though. The price for about 25 cabinets was around $9k (nearly half the price of other brands). The next biggest thing is who we are working with at HD. You need to find someone who really is knowledgeable & will work well with you.

You have to be careful no matter who you hire. I have all sorts of tips at my website about hiring contractors.
